Passport 40 Sailboats For Sale

exterior

The Passport 40 is a passagemaking cruiser designed by Robert Perry and built in modest numbers between 1980 and 1991 (148 hulls reported). It is a solidly constructed GRP yacht with a long-forefoot cruising fin keel and a skeg-hung rudder, a hull form and displacement that owners and brokers describe as providing a comfortable motion in a seaway rather than a racing orientation. Wheel steering and a protected rudder arrangement are characteristic of the design.

Interior joinery is a noted feature: teak cabinetry, teak-and-holly sole options and high-quality joinery are repeatedly cited in listings. Accommodation generally follows a two-cabin layout with a forward V-berth and an aft cabin, and examples show both Pullman-style berths and traditional V-berths in service as owner cabins. The main salon provides a sizable settee arrangement with a convertible dining table and abundant under-seat stowage. A full head with a separate shower stall and hot-and-cold plumbing is standard in the described boats.

Galley arrangements are typically U-shaped and fitted for cruising: gimballed oven and hob, refrigeration and freezer capacity, and in some examples additional water handling such as a filtered tap, manual foot pumps and a Jabsco house pump with pressure tank. A full-size chart table and a labeled electrical panel are present in the nav station on the boats described.

Systems and refits noted across listings include repowering or major engine work (a reported 50 hp Beta Marine repower in 2012 with documented hours on that installation, and extensive rebuild work on another installation in 2019), upgraded electrical distribution with both AC and DC, LED lighting, solar and wind generation, shore and reverse-cycle air conditioning, and refreshed battery banks. Propulsion and steering updates include stuffing-box service, folding three-blade propellers on some boats, and autopilot installations.

Deck and exterior work cited in listings include removal of teak decks on several examples with subsequent repainting of the cabin top and deck surfaces, replacement or resealing of chain plates, replacement of thru-hulls, updated canvas (dodger and bimini) and cockpit furnishings, and routine bottom system work including epoxy barrier coats and recent antifouling. Sail handling has been arranged for efficient cockpit operation, with roller furling and inner forestays referenced on particular vessels.
