An iconic boat that needs no introduction, the Grand Banks 42 is easily the most successful trawler design ever produced.

Although called a trawler, the Grand Banks does not have a trawler hull. Rather, she rides on a semi-displacement hull with a tall bow, hard chines, and a full keel which gives her a moderate 4’2″ draft.

One of the most desirable features of the Grand Banks 42 is her roomy full-teak interior. She was built with the galley forward to port in the salon, opposite the lower helm. The master stateroom is aft and has a walkaround double berth and split head and shower compartments. The forward stateroom has V-berths.

A sliding door at the helm provides deck access, and full walkaround decks make getting around easy and secure. Twin 120 hp Ford Lehmans allow her to cruise at 9 to 10 knots.

Owner's Comments and Boat History

  • Aegir is a 1978 Grand Banks 42 Classic located in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. She has clearly benefited from attentive ownership and ongoing maintenance, earning an "Above Average" condition rating in her most recent marine survey conducted in March 2026. The survey noted a recently renewed exterior paint finish, a well-kept teak interior, clean machinery spaces, and numerous system upgrades.
  • Aegir has enjoyed an active but carefully managed cruising life under her current ownership, spending much of her time exploring the Florida Keys and cruising the Intracoastal Waterway. Rather than sitting idle at the dock, she has been regularly exercised and maintained as a true cruising vessel, benefiting from consistent use and attentive stewardship.
  • The owner has followed a disciplined maintenance schedule that includes annual haul-outs for bottom painting and inspection. In addition, a professional diver has cleaned the hull and running gear monthly. Above the waterline, the vessel has received routine washdowns approximately every two weeks.
  • Owned by a FedEx airline pilot with a strong emphasis on safety, preparedness, and systems management, Aegir has been maintained with a philosophy centered on reliability, redundancy, and preventative maintenance.
