S/V Mysterium2 is a Charlotte Amalie based 2000 Leopard 38 For Sale By Owner. This owner requires financial settlement only. No trades.
“Mysterium2” is for sale by non-smoking owners version. This Leopard 38 is a 2 owner cat cared for by the original owner and now by a professional yachtsmen. This is a not a hurricane damaged boat, and NOT a constructive total loss boat. Nor has it ever had any evidence of damage from groundings or impacts other than typical scrapes and scratches.
BUILDERS REMARKS: The Leopard 38 (or Moorings 3800) is the one of the rare “owners layout”. The 38 handles easily, has a large cockpit and a well appointed saloon and cabins. This is the three cabin version with a master suite, shower and head occupying the starboard hull and two cabins in the port hull sharing a head and shower. The galley is up in the saloon. The deck layout is clear and the main sheet traveler runs on an arch over the transom giving unimpeded access to the water via a wide aft bathing platform. The transom arch also serves to support the aft end of the bimini top and to carry the dinghy. Deep louvered steps shade the forward sloping saloon windows while providing an easy and secure walkway to the saloon roof. The Leopard 38 is a competent performer under sail and power.
Loaded with a massive 1300 kw solar system and lithium batteries plus with under a 1000 hrs on engines, recent updated upholstery, cockpit cushions and more, this 2001 Leopard 38 presents the opportunity to sail off the grid and live your bluewater dream.
Mysterium2 is a proven performer, her maiden voyage was from South Africa to the Windward islands in the Caribbean & has been sailing in the Caribbean since new. She is now sitting in her home port of St. Thomas, USVI.
The catamarans’ current owners have enjoyed cruising her extensively with family and friends for 5 years and it is now time for us to move onto other endeavors and pass Mysterium2 on to her next loving owner.
S/V Mysterium2 is for sale by non-smoking owners and she is a USCG documented US equipped vessel. She was been cared for by the original owner and now maintained & extensively updated by the second owner, a professional yachtsmen & wife team who have 90 plus years of sailing experience between them. After having our prior boat destroyed during Hurricane Irma, we sought out this model Leopard because the transmission has shaft drives with skegged propellers instead of sail drives and because of her superior structural integrity. And that it doesn’t have proprietary solid state boards behind DC or AC electrical panels or appliances. It is also a low profile cat with excellent visibility of all 4 corners and most importantly forward from the helm’s seat in the cockpit! This is a major point verses the tread in catamarans getting higher & higher and longer but not proportionally wider limited by travel lifts and marina slips. The higher profile flybridge cats dictates the boom has to be higher than the raised cockpit, and for full visibilty forward the head sail has to be furled to the line of sight of someone sitting in the helms seat to fully see forward. For the Leopard 38 only about two foot of bottom the furled jib is not rolled out to have full forward visibility from the helms seat.
Our Leopard 38 was built in South Africa and outfitted with US equipment. The updates include: new Victron 120AC/DC Inverter/charging system, Victron Cerbo GX and color control screen, 800 amp LifePO4 brand (lithium) batteries, new 40 gallons/hour water maker and visually every light converted to LED’s including navigation lights. Massive 1300kw solar system provides all our needs from the Nespresso cappuccino machine to the AC water maker. We have not been connected to a dock for electrical needs for over three years. The engines were repowered in 2010, currently with under a 1,000 hours on the engines.
Inside, she has the three cabin athwartship berth layout with a dedicated owners hull to starboard. The master has a queen size stateroom, private midship head and large aft walk in shower. Port side has a queen size cabin forward, midship head and shower, and a double sized cabin aft. The salon features new upholstery seating and dining with large windows and opening hatches. The galley is located up and is adorned with Corian countertops.
Topside, the deck layout is clear with genoa tracks placed on saloon roof, while mainsheet travel is positioned overhead on the targa wing arch at the aft end of the cockpit. This makes the cockpit area very safe and allows for direct walk-through access to a wide bathing platform that connects both transoms. Louvered steps fit over the sloping saloon windows providing shade in the saloon from morning and afternoon sun and they facilitate access to the roof and boom. Roll down cockpit screens filter the afternoon Caribbean sun yet let the breezes flow through.
Note: this cat has not been connected to shore power for over 2 years. All Energy is generated from solar stored in the LifePO4 (lithium) batteries for all our electrical needs and the Victron CerboGX can remotely be monitored if internet is available. The Victron system manages all our AC electrical needs from Nespresso coffee & frother, power washer, toaster, power tools or making water via our 3 phase 220v unit. Hot water is heated by running starboard engine for 10 minutes every other day stored in a 24 liter (6.34 gallons) Isotemp water heater.
The port engine w/120 amp alternator regulated by a Balmar MC-618-H charges LifePO4 batteries when the engine is running however all our energy needs are covered by solar. We also have a new Wen brand inverter/charger which we have never needed to use as a back up. However connecting the Wen via the ships’ shore power cord, the Victron charger profiled for LifePO4’s will charge the house batteries. A Victron 100watt solar with a separate MPPT is profiled for both starting batteries & are charged off the port engine
Charging spares include: (1) high output alternator for port engine w/serpentine pulley mounted and a new Balmar MC-618-H, (1) new spare serpentine belt, (1) 60 amp alternator for port, (3) spare V belts. Plus (2) “take you home” regulators with plug in harnesses, should both Balmar regulators fail!
This cat is set up for bluewater cruising not just day sailing, thus we are truly dock independent!
